About Elite Roleplaying

'Elite Roleplaying' is an online RPG group, operating in the Star Trek (Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force) and Star Wars (Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy) universes.

ERP is overseen by ERP Central Command, responsible for public relations, and watching over the different divisions described below.

Elite Roleplaying: Star Trek

In September of 2002, a group of individuals from a forum called EFMods created a spin-off of a forum based RPG called the 'Virtual Game'. The two founding members, Luke and Logalot, took the idea and expanded it to the Star Trek Voyager: Elite Force game, calling it 'Project: Elite Roleplaying.' RPing in Elite Force allowed for the player to perform the actions of their character with text, and thus, provided an increased experience. Less than a year later, the project's name eventually took the present name of Elite Roleplaying.

Initially, due to the lack of a server to support the project, roleplaying occured on servers put up by random members. Eventually, the group was able to acquire their own server (the KSI Private Server) by an individual named Scooter. Later, the individual named Phil took over server control and still does presently.

Elite Force Maps

Over the years, many events have occured in the Star Trek division of Elite Roleplaying, from hackings to major mod creations. The first major event was the creation of the first RPG map by Project: Elite Roleplaying named the Keystone, produced by ERP Founder Luke. Other maps created include the Eternal (a Steamrunner class), also by Luke and the 10to5, by Scooter. Other maps previously created were also used, including the CTF_Deralict series of maps by James Nukem, and the planet-based map Rurapenthe.

As the years went by, mappers became more experienced and were able to implement more functions into maps. New experiences made way for the USS Magnificent and USS Serenity map series, by James Nukem and Mr T. Mapping advanced further with the USS Poseidon map series by Will and Anthony of ST-RP, and further from the same mappers, with map results like the USS Poseidon-B and USS Enterprise-E.

Modifications

Though maps were made to increase the RPG experience of Elite Force, it was still a first-person shooter. In 2003, a mod was developed by an individual named Steve called the Federation mod, which removed many of the shooter aspects of the game and implemented RPG items including PADDs and Hyposprays, an updated version was later released called the RPG mod.

However, these modifications were not created by ERP. To further the RPG aspect of Elite Force, Phil created his own RPG modification based on the original RPG mod, the ERPG mod. This modification became common place for ERP and other RPG groups in Elite Force for almost 2 years. For about half the period of this time, a group of individuals began work on a brand new RPG mod called RPG-X. The mod was produced as a collaboration between various RPG groups, including ERP. At the beginning of 2005, RPG-X was finally released providing a more enjoyable roleplaying experience.

Virtual Fleet

In an effort to create a continuous plot line on a Star Trek starship, a subdivision of ERP was created called the Virtual Fleet. This fleet originally consisted of one Excelsior class starship called the USS Silver Flair. The crew was put together, however the map was not completed and the project was scrapped. Not long afterwards, the Virtual Fleet project was revived through a test on maps available at the time. The test was a success and the USS Castille, USS Ranger and USS San Jacinto were created. Due to various mapping and command issues, the San Jacinto was cancelled after a few weeks. Further problems began to appear due to a controversial plot involving a super race, causing the Virtual Fleet to go into hiatus in March of 2004. A month later, after some replanning, the Virtual Fleet was relaunched with two ships: The USS Castille and the USS Peacemillion (the replacement for the Ranger).

To allow for more choices in the Virtual Fleet and allow new scenarios, the Starbase Horizon Virtual Fleet station was created in October of 2004, proving to be a success. Unlike the Horizon, the Peacemillion had minimal activity. By the decision of the PM's Captain, Archer, and the ERP Council, the Peacemillion was turned into a Forum based RPG. In another attempt to increase activity, the Peacemillion was returned to an active Elite Force RPG. At about the same time, another Virtual Fleet ship named the Al-Batani was created, this time it was open to the general public. After a month, the Al-Batani (Now Gemini) became inactive and has been put aside for future use.

Elite Roleplaying: Star Wars

Due to the declining number of RPers in the Elite Force community, a plan was devised for a new division based in the Star Wars universe in the game environment of Star Wars Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. After many months of planning, the Star Wars division was made public in January of 2005.

Division differences

In order to appeal to a new audience of members, and to ease the start-up, an application forum was created which allowed any person interested in ERP to join (ERP: Star Trek followed suit a few months later). Additionally, the rules were not as enforcing as those in the Star Trek division.

Eras

During planning, a long discussion involved the choice of which Star Wars era the division would take place in. It was eventually decided to use the Galactic Civil War era. The division leaders also planned to create a Knights of the Old Republic era later after launch. In July of 2005, after much anticipation, the KOTOR era was launched to the public. At first, various issues came up that threatened the continuation of the KOTOR era. After some time, these issues were resolved.

Virtual Fleet

Following suit with the Star Trek division, a Virtual Fleet was devised for ERP: Star Wars in April of 2005. To prevent any issues from occuring, only one Imperial ship was created called the Vindicator and a forum based RPG on a station called Dentrassi station. The forum based RPG became inactive after a few weeks, though the Vindicator was highly popular. After the release of a new map, the Vindicator was switched to the Vanguard in July.

Elite Roleplaying: Non-Server Roleplaying

Due to the unavailability of Elite Force, and to allow other Star Trek fans to join ERP without the need of a game. A division was devised solely for forum based RPG. In August of 2005, the division was released to the public.

Premise

The Non-Server RPG division is based in the year of 2388, in a newly discovered system with a wormhole that leads to an unknown area in the universe. The division consists of three RPGs currently: the USS Hammerhead (Sovereign class), USS Morning Star (Akira class) and a Federation Starbase.

Defunct Divisions

Elite Roleplaying: Klingon Division
To permit a greater range of plots, a server was created solely for Klingon RPG plots. Initially, it was popular, though it became extremely inactive after a week. A month after the subdivision was launched, it was scrapped.
